Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti are a set of steps climbing a steep slope between the Piazza di Spagna at the base, and Piazza Trinità dei Monti at the top. This monumental stairway of 135 steps was built with funds bequeathed by a French diplomat in 1725 and is commonly referred to as the Spanish Steps.
This is how I remember the steps back in 1998 on our first visit. (Not a great image but it seems to me that Trip Advisor has copyrighted almost every image of every famous location in the world!)
This is what we found when we wandered through Piazza di Spagna at about 7.00 on Saturday evening.
I suspect the potted bougainvillea are moved around in an attempt to even out the wear and tear. Surely no-one thinks them an attractive addition.
The fountain at the foot of the steps is in the shape of a boat and traditionally has provided a cool-off for hot summer feet. But there were so many people behind me I couldn't get back far enough to get it all in the photo.
Piazza di Spagna is at the head of via de Condotti, the home in Rome of all the big brands.
Nothing much attracted me at this one.
But I loved MaxMara.
Paul was looking very worried as I eyed-off the outfit on the right. My colours - navy and off-white. My size. And the price? ..... well it wasn't cheap! Enough said ... sigh!
